Chipcon's new CC1021, a multichannel RF transceiver for relaxed narrowband operations (ie with 50 kHz or wider channel spacing), is a cost-optimised version of the CC1020, and operates in the 402-470 MHz and 804-940 MHz frequency ranges. The CC1021 offers the same unique features as the CC1020 RF transceiver, and complies with EN 300 220 and FCC CFR part 15.
As the CC1020, the CC1021 has a software configurable radio architecture, offering unique flexibility. RF frequency, modulation (GFSK/FSK/ASK/OOK), Manchester/NRZ, output power, data rate and IF bandwidth can be programmed via and SPI-compatible interface to optimise each individual application and create low-cost, but still robust, RF communication. With an image rejection mixer and a frequency-agile PLL with fine frequency resolution, the CC1021 is well suited to multichannel systems in the ISM/SRD bands at 433/868 MHz (Europe) and 915 MHz (USA).
As it requires only a few external components, the CC1021 achieves a minimal bill of material. It offers a programmable data rate of up to 153,6 Kbps, a 2,3 to 3,6 supply voltage, programmable output power up to dBm, fully on-chip VCO, programmable carrier frequency and intelligent wake-up circuitry for power management. It is supported by a development kit to aid designers.
