The RF3177 is RFMD's first quad-band transmit (TX) module for GSM/GPRS class 12 operation. The TX module builds upon the company's expertise in power amplifier technology with its integrated power control, pHEMT switch technology and integrated filters.
The result is a compact, high-performance module that simplifies transmitter design. Using this architecture, the power amplifier (PA) switch interface is controlled and post PA losses are minimised, meeting ETSI specifications.
The module is based upon RFMD's third-generation PowerStar power amplifier (PA) module with integrated power control. This eliminates the need for directional couplers, detector diodes, power control ASICs and other power control circuitry, which allows the module to be driven directly from the DAC output. The antenna switch function is performed by the pHEMT switch inside inside the multichip module (MCM). Proprietary design techniques allow for low loss, high isolation and superior harmonic suppression even under high mismatch conditions. ESD circuitry provides greater than 8 kV ESD protection.
The RF3177 is self-contained with 50 Ω input and output terminals, and features laminate package technology in 9 x 10 x 1,5 mm form factor.
