Embedded applications require specific features difficult to find on commercial PC mainboards. Creating a custom-made board with desired features is expensive and time consuming. A simpler and more cost effective solution is to add features by incorporating PC/104 modules. PC/104 modules use a smart stacking bus design that allows easy expansion. A small capable CPU board is Advantech's PCM-3370, with onboard fanless Intel ULV Celeron 400/650 CPU or Intel LV PIII 800 (optional)/933 processor, along with VIA VT8606/TwisterT chipset.
PC/104 and PC/104-Plus I/O expansion allows features to be quickly added using off-the-shelf modules, giving developers a fanless, high-performing, and scalable platform with superior graphics performance that can fit into tight spaces. The PCM-3370 suits applications such as medical DVRs, transportation, military and industrial automation, where uncompromised SBC performance in a limited space, and long product availability are needed.
SDRAM memory is up to 512 MB and the SSD CompactFlash (Type I) socket eliminates the use of fragile hard disks. Two USB 1.1 compliant ports are available as is 1 LPT and 2 COM ports. PCM-3370 comes with watchdog timer support and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. Numerous standard PCI and ISA add-on cards are also available.
