Microchip Technology has released what it claims are the world's smallest microcontrollers - in 6-pin packages - packing the high performing PIC microcontroller architecture into the small form factor of a SOT-23 package. These 6-pin Flash devices provide an ideal solution for many markets and uses that are not typically served by today's microcontrollers. This includes 'electronic glue' to enable easy bug fixes for ASIC and PCB designs, it says, and to replace standard logic and timing components or traditional mechanical timers and switches. The PIC10F 8-bit family debuts with four members (PIC10F200, PIC10F202, PIC10F204 and PIC10F206) that offer 256 to 512 instructions (x12-bit program words) of Flash and 16 bytes to 24 bytes of data RAM memory. The devices also feature a precision 4 MHz internal oscillator, 33 instructions, two stack levels, 25 mA source/sink current I/O, low power (100 nA) sleep current, 2 to 5,5 V operating voltage range, one 8-bit timer, a watchdog timer, in circuit serial programming, power-on reset, sleep mode and an analog comparator module (in PIC10F204/6).
