Innovative wireless communication solutions

8 September 2004 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Recent advances in the 'world's smallest embedded PC' by CompuLab (www.compulab.co.il) is now revolutionising the telecommunications industry with its application in GPRS-based intelligent telemetry and telecommand products.

Combined with Airwave Technologies' infrastructure of co-located and co-hosted servers inside the MTN network, Airwave says it offers effective solutions comprising secure networks and remotely distributed intelligent mobile nodes.

Airwave Technologies is also the exclusive distributor for CompuLab's products in South Africa. CompuLab's range of products include Elan, Geode, Celeron, Pentium-III (1260 MHz) and Xscale (ARM) processors implemented on credit card size OEM modules that include RAM, NOR and NAND flash hardrives, ISA, PCI, IDE and USB buses, multiple COM ports, IrDA, 10/100 LAN, PS2 Keyboard and Mouse interfaces, 16 bit soundcard with VGA and LCD drivers. Low power requirements between 0,2 to 5 W make these modules ideal for size and power-constrained applications.

Standard BASE-boards are also available in PC/104(-Plus) and Mini-ITX form-factors. The peripheral configuration on these boards are customisable so that clients can select the best-fit-solution given cost and processing-power constraints, says the company. Operating systems such as Linux, Windows NT/CE/XP, VxWorks and DOS (with networking) are supported, making a strong argument for software development in high level languages and thus a reduced time to market cycle.

Airwave Technologies says that these competitively-priced industrial work-horses are ideally suited for intelligent data loggers with complex pre-processing requirements, embedded webservers, control or monitoring systems, vending machines, POS, biometric access control, electronic signage, GPS applications, and similar applications.
