The Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture, AdvancedTCA, was developed specifically to address demands for greater bandwidth, higher integration densities and improved availability. Rittal offers this in the form of its ATCA shelf.
ATCA offers the advantage of a scalable architecture, supporting a wide variety of standardised and proprietary fabric interfaces. The aim is to combine efficient system monitoring with high system performance and effective heat dissipation. All Rittal systems are of stainless steel construction with a one-piece guide rail/air filter combination. This design guarantees optimum electrical shielding against unwanted radiation.
The shelves are fully-configured and tested for (initially) 14 slots front and back, two or four power-entry modules, cable management, slots for the shelf management cards, a dual-star or - as the ultimate solution - a full-mesh backplane and four powerful RiCool DC fans. These fans are designed to provide maximum redundancy and safeguard proper cooling of the shelf should any individual fan fail - even in the case of a full 14 x 200 W installation. Two versions are offered: one for applications with the 'Intel Colorado Springs shelf management controller' (ShMC), and one for 'force or pigeon point.'
