Microchip's new family of mid-range, high-performance flash microcontrollers offer integrated A-D converters. Using Microchip's advanced 0,5 µm process technology, the PIC16F7X family combines both size and cost reductions and enables current OTP customers to migrate to a more flexible flash-based platform. The PIC16F73 and PIC16F74 microcontrollers offer 4 kwords of flash program memory and 192 bytes of data RAM, while the PIC16F76 and PIC16F77 offer 8 kwords of flash program memory and 368 bytes of data RAM. Available in 28 and 40-pin packages, all the devices feature 8 bit ADC and 35 single-cycle instructions.
The devices offer high precision and accuracy without significant power consumption, making them ideal for battery-powered applications. Other on-chip peripherals include a comprehensive timer subsystem, providing a realtime clock or two 8 and one 16 bit counter/timer modules. PIC16F7X family provide 22 or 33 pins for I/O functions, a unique synchronous serial port supporting SPI or I2C protocols, a full-featured 5,0 Mbps USART, two 80 kHz PWM outputs with 10 bit resolution and two 16 bit capture/compare modules.
The PIC16F7X family is also capable of direct LED drive and direct triac interface. The PIC16F74 and PIC16F77 also feature a parallel slave port (PSP) to communicate directly with other microprocessors. A complete set of Microchip development tools supports the PIC16F7X family, including the MPLAB in-circuit emulator.
