Philips Semiconductors has released extensions of two key families in its 80C51-based microcontroller solutions. The 87LPC769 is the industry's first 80C51 microcontroller with two onboard digital-to-analog converters (DACs), while the 8xC554 features include UART modes and advanced integrated power management support. Both products use the 6-clock core, which provides improved power consumption and noise immunity, thereby lowering the electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Both the 87LPC769 and 8xC554 can be configured for industrial control applications such as speed, temperature and power controls. The 87LPC769 features a unique 8 bit DAC and a dedicated 8 bit ADC that is easily configurable via software as a second DAC. The ADC is a four-channel 8 bit converter that can be used in a wide variety of applications, such as volume control in an MP3 player or to speed controls in DC motors. For higher resolution, the 8xC554 features an 8-channel, 10 bit ADC.
The 87LPC769 incorporates UART and I2C serial communications while addressing DAC and ADC needs, enabling shorter design times, reduced board space and significantly lower development costs. In addition, the 87LPC769 features 4 KB of one time programmable (OTP) memory and 128 B of RAM in a 20-pin package.
The 87LPC769 in an extended 125°C temperature range is currently available in a 20-pin SOIC package. The 87C554 is available in a 64-pin LQFP packaging.
