The Advantech ADAM-5000 Ethernet-based data acquisition and control systems from ProMicro are designed to acquire data and to monitor and control processes through multichannel I/O modules. The ADAM-5000 modules are capable of handling up to 128 I/O points, and depending on the layout and the number of I/O points, the user can configure as many systems as required for the application. The 16-bit microprocessor and FIFO circuitry accelerates communication speeds. Its 115,2 Kbps is much faster than conventional RS485 networks.
Included in the main unit are a CPU card, a power regulator, a 4- or 8-slot base and communication port. If required, the ADAM-5000 is upgradable simply by changing the main unit, without changing existing modules.
A three-way isolation design prevents ground loops and reduces the effects of electric noise in the system, as well as providing surge protection. A watchdog timer monitors the microprocessor and automatically resets the system. Various types of system or I/O module failures are detected by the hardware self-test or by software diagnosis.
Analog input modules can be configured to accept several ranges of voltage, current, thermocouple or RTD input. With the exception of the system node address, all parameters can be set remotely. ADAM-5000 distributed data acquisition and control systems are supported by most standard process control or HMI software.
