Synchronous clock module offers turnkey solution

8 November 2000 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Raltron's Stratum-3 synchronous clock module for telecom network synchronisation and wireless communication systems is a semi-custom subsystem that offloads costly design engineering tasks and offers a turnkey solution to many complex challenges of communication systems design.

Based on DSP techniques, the SY-0001 sync module features its own Stratum-3 OCXO, two independent inputs of any reference frequency from 8 kHz to 77,76 MHz and a DSP phase-locked loop with a bandwidth of only 0,1 Hz that eliminates jitter in any incoming signal. DSP coefficients are uniquely held on-board in flash memory and so provide a high degree of user flexibility.

"If after installation you need to alter, say, a 3 dB point, all you have to do is download the new DSP coefficients into flash memory," notes Ramon Cerda, Raltron Product Manager. Other flexibility features include two external reference frequencies; control inputs via header pins, J-TAG or SCI connectors and three packaging options - a hermetically sealed metal box for severe environments, an EMI-protected metal enclosure or an open circuit board for low-profile installations.

"This new timing module reduces inventory parts count and offers freedom from test engineering and cost", said Cerda. "It offers the security of known performance to Bellcore GR-1244 specifications and provides freedom from critical design minutiae so that system designers can concentrate on higher-level design tasks with confidence. It speeds time-to-market, reduces size and improves manufacturability."
