High performance antennas for cellular communications

9 February 2005 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Modern technology not only brings along the freedom to easily communicate anywhere, anytime, but very often also brings technical problems. Cellphones are indispensable - but only if they are usable. Nobody has escaped the common 'dropped calls,' bad signals and low voice quality during that all important emergency, business or private phone call. Also, a full-scale reliable signal is needed for operating GPRS, MMS or to gain web access via a cellphone.

Poynting Antennas has developed various special GSM cellphone 'range extender' antennas to help overcome such typical 'low signal' problems. Poynting offers a complete range of antennas to facilitate reliable cellular communications.

The LPDA is the first in a new range of robust, compact, high performance cellular high gain antennas designed specifically for end users battling with bad reception in remote areas and for business applications, such as least cost router (LCR) systems and cellular payphone installations. The product features new advances in manufacture and design, and wide band operation over the entire cellular band, including full GSM, 3G, and other global cellular standards. This means the antenna can be used worldwide.

High gain (at least 11dBi) operation and superior matching (VSWR lower than 2:1) over the entire band ensures that irrespective of the network, the antenna will operate as required. It delivers at least 16 times the power of most cellular handset antennas, says Poynting.

The antenna also addresses the growing least cost router market by allowing even more cellular devices to be connected to a single antenna via Poynting's comprehensive cellular splitter range. High gain directionality also reduces the effects of multipath interference, making LCR installation more reliable and consistent.

The CellLPDA range is manufactured using light-weight aluminium and hardy polycarbonate plastic, making it compact, strong and light. It is operationally rain and weather proof.
