RF Micro Devices has added two new members to its innovative PowerStar power amplifier (PA) module portfolio. The new modules measure 6 x 6 x 1,4 mm and represent greater than 30% reduction in size compared to the previous generation. This newest generation of PA modules includes: the quad-band RF3158 (GSM/GPRS/EDGE), optimised for linear EDGE using either direct I&Q modulators or small signal polar modulation, and the quad-band RF3166 (GSM/GPRS), optimised for GSM/GPRS class 12. The two devices also feature integrated battery voltage tracking circuitry, which is an industry first for standard PA module products. The modules also incorporate all RF matching and bypassing circuitry, eliminating the need for external bypass components and critical routing.
