Embedded modules for realtime performance

National Instruments offers two new PXI realtime controllers for programmable automation controller (PAC) and deterministic data acquisition and control design applications. These controllers, combined with the NI LabVIEW Real-Time Module, deliver deterministic, realtime processing for the rugged, modular PXI platform.
The NI PXI-8187 RT controller is a high-performance controller with a 2,5 GHz Pentium 4 processor and up to 1 GB of double data rate (DDR) RAM, which delivers faster processing. Engineers now can take advantage of the additional processing power for more complex or analysis-intensive applications such as hardware-in-the-loop testing, rapid control prototyping and machine condition monitoring. The new PXI-8187 RT controller increases the performance of realtime PXI applications, which means faster control loops and more analysis in the loop.
The NI PXI-8184 RT controller is a new mid-performance controller with an 850 MHz Celeron processor. The cost-effective PXI-8184 RT controller is better suited for less processor-intensive industrial data acquisition and OEM applications. This controller provides an alternative to high-volume or cost-sensitive applications that require reliable and deterministic realtime processing.
Because both controllers have solid-state drive options, engineers can deploy realtime PXI systems in harsher environments than rotating drives can sustain. LabVIEW Real-Time works with a wide range of PXI and CompactPCI modules through industry-standard virtual instrumentation software architecture (VISA) drivers.
