PCA-6186-A series has been Advantech's best-selling full-sized Intel Pentium 4 CPU card for a number of years. The company has now introduced its next-generation, the PCA-6186-B series with new features. The PCA-6186-B is designed with Intel Pentium 4 and the new Intel Celeron D processor built on 90 nm technology. It also delivers advanced features to operate reliably in AT power mode with Advantech's unique designs of thermal protection circuit and a sleep mode control circuit.
The PCA-6186-00B1 series is enhanced with the following features: supports Intel Celeron D processors based on 90 nm process; and includes a unique thermal protection circuit for AT power mode as well as a sleep mode for AT power mode.
Current chipsets supporting P4 process are designed and verified based on the ATX power supply. This causes some incompatibility problems while using AT power supply or ATX power supply set to AT mode. One crucial issue is the processor overheating. If a system crashes or the CPU fan fails, the processor temperature will rise to a dangerous critical level. The ATX power supply will then receive a signal to shutdown. However, an AT set power supply lack this feature. To solve, Advantech uniquely designed a thermal protection circuit for the PCA-6186-B series which cuts off the power if the processor is overheating, ensuring more reliable operation and preventing any data loss.
