Company ships over 1 million ZigBee 802.15.4 chips

Chipcon has announced that it has shipped over 1 million ZigBee ready, IEEE 802.15.4 RF chips to date. The chips are part of Chipcon's ZigBee compliant wireless device networking solution using Figure 8 Wireless' Z-Stack. Over 1000 companies have ordered the company's CC2420 development or evaluation kits worldwide.

"The fact that we have already reached 1 million units is a significant milestone not only for Chipcon, but for the entire ZigBee 802.15.4 market," commented Geir Fore, president and CEO of Chipcon AS.

"Chipcon is currently working with leading OEMs in multiple application segments including building automation, automated meter reading, industrial monitoring and healthcare. Our success has been based on our ability to reach the market early with a working and compliant platform, and our ability to anticipate our end customer's systems needs," Fore added. "It is now evident that the ZigBee standard is the clear winner in the wireless controls market."
