Claimed to be the world's first, a wireless desktop PC speaker application that offers full uncompressed CD quality audio, has been developed by PC maker Lenovo. By exploiting Nordic Semiconductor's nRF24Z1 single chip 2,4 GHz wireless audio streaming device, Lenovo's wireless speaker application delivers 16-bit sampling resolution per channel, 44,1 kHz uncompressed CD quality audio across a 4 Mbps data stream.
The nRF24Z1 RF chip exhibits extremely low latency, says Nordic. It integrates an I²S or S/PDIF interface plus a robust frequency-hopping scheme to prevent degradation in performance due to interference from sources such as WLANs, cordless phones and Bluetooth links which also use the 2,4 GHz ISM band. Low power consumption also makes the chip well-suited for portable battery-operated products.
