Low phase-noise PLL synthesizer

Peregrine Semiconductor has released a 3,2 GHz Delta-Sigma modulated fractional-N phase locked-loop frequency synthesiser for low phase-noise space applications, such as high-capacity digital satellite payloads. The PE97632 chip is an addition to the company's single-chip rad-hard PLL integrated circuit product line. Previously, rad-hard space applications needing this level of performance required that the function be developed by assembling up to a hundred discrete components, says the company. Drop-in compatible with its predecessor, the PE9763, the PE97632 delivers a 4 to 10 dB improvement in close-in phase-noise. The device features a normalised phase-noise of -216 dBc/Hz, and, as a DSM frac-N device, it offers complete frequency plan flexibility in a single IC. The product is available in die or ceramic 68-lead CQFJ package.
