Range of RF modules enable speedy wireless product development

31 May 2006 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Radiocrafts offers a range of RF modules for operation in the licence-free ISM bands. The modules are compact, easy-to-integrate, and hence can provide a short time-to-market for designers of wireless products.

Zigbee-ready module

The RC2200 is a complete Zigbee-ready module from the company that supports full function device (FFD) and reduced function device (RFD) operation with IEEE 802.15.4 compliant PHY and MAC layers. The complete shielded module measures only 16,5 x 29,2 x 3,5 mm, and is optionally available with integrated antenna or RF connector. With 128 kB flash memory, 32 digital and analog I/Os, 8 channel 10-bit ADC, 6-pin interrupts, UART and SPI interfaces, the company says that it is easy to embed a complete application in a single tiny module.

Complete ISM-band family

Radiocrafts' RC2000 and RC2100, are one of the smallest RF module series in the industry. Both 2,45 GHz devices, the company has integrated a complete high performance, low power, two-way radio solution with an embedded protocol in a mere 3,2 cm² footprint. The shielded modules are designed for surface mounting and measure 12,7 x 25,4 x 3,5 mm. Data buffering, addressing and error checking are all handled by the embedded proprietary protocol. A standard UART serial bus is the interface to the host.

A series of eight products includes RC1040, RC1080 and RC1090. These offer the lowest power consumption and lowest cost of the devices. RC1040 and RC1080 are designed for operation in the licence-free bands in Europe at 433 and 868 MHz, whereas RC1090 operates under FCC regulations for use in USA and Canada at 902-928 MHz.

The RC1240, RC1280 and RC1290 are their high performance counterparts giving longer range and improved performance. RC1240 and RC1280 meet the stringent regulations for 25 kHz narrow-band systems in Europe, required for example in wireless alarm systems. RC1290 is a high performance narrow-band alternative to the more complex FH systems widely used in the US today.
