Embedded box computers for small spaces

28 June 2006 Computer/Embedded Technology

Advantech's ARK-3380 Series of embedded box computers are designed for space-critical embedded applications requiring powerful computing capability. They feature fanless operation, low power use, extreme reliability and ruggedness, flexible I/O configuration and long product life support.

Designed to offer maximum computing power in a most efficient footprint, the ARK-3380 Series is fully customisable, offering a range of processing engines, storage, connectivity and I/O configurations that allow integrators to put scalable computing power, exactly where needed. The ARK-3380 Series offer feature sets designed to target vertical market applications like video, automation and networking control.

Featuring low voltage Intel Celeron/Pentium M processors to 1,4 GHz, and a footprint of only 264,5 x 69,2 x 137,25 mm with protected housing, the rugged ARK-3380 Series can be mounted inside machinery or other equipment/housing, or standalone by wall or DIN rail mounting. The Series accepts a wide range of power supplies and a choice of CFC SSD drive or 2,5" HDD. The cast aluminium chassis not only provides great protection from EMI, shock (5G), vibration, dust, cold and heat, but also acts as a functional heatsink to ensure low temperature operation from -20 to 60°C.

Every ARK-3380 Series unit offers industry-standard turnkey solutions, or full customisation support with build-to-order service (BTOS) and design-to-order service (DTOS).

The ARK-3380 offers comprehensive multimedia I/O support featuring dual display, TV-out, DVI, LVDS and SC97 stereo audio. This series targets applications like POS/POI, intelligent traffic monitoring, and machine vision systems. The ARK-3380 comes with multiple I/O support featuring 5 x RS232/422/484, 1 x RS232 and 1 x RS232 (Rx/Tx only without handshaking). The ARK-3381 supports applications for environment and facilities monitoring, kiosks, tolling and ticketing, and entrance controls as well as medical devices with multiple device connectivity. The ARK-3380 supports intensive networking capability by offering 4 x 10/100 Base-T Ethernet plus LAN bypass function support. This makes the ARK-3382 ideal for industrial and security gateway applications, which require intensive LAN communication, such as firewall or VPN.

The ARK-3380 Series can meet customers' varied PC-based application needs. It offers high performance computing in an extremely small, self-contained, hassle-free unit that is also fully customisable to match their specific application needs.
