Claimed to be the world's first single-chip VoIP (voice-over-IP) engine with integrated codec and analog telephony interface, Infineon Technologies' new Vinetic-Plus paves the way for creation of highly compact and portable VoIP-telephony adapters that allow any analog phone to establish VoIP calls from any broadband Internet connection. Compared to existing solutions, Infineon says that the Vinetic-Plus reduces the PCB area required for an adapter by at least 30%. In addition to the VoIP processor, complete subscriber line interface (SLIC) functionality is integrated into the chip, eliminating the separate analog interface circuit or codec required for current chip-based designs. The highly integrated chip in a PG-LBGA-144 package includes DSP, memory, codec and dual SLICs to support standard telephony features such as caller ID, call hold and three-way conferencing.
