With its Microspace EPIC 800 board (MSEP800), Digital-Logic is offering an embedded computer platform based on the open EPIC (embedded platform for industrial computing) standard of the PC/104 consortium.
This compact computer board uses a fanless Geode LX800@0,9 W processor with 500 MHz. The main memory can be equipped with DDR SDRAMs from 256 MB up to 1 GB. A panel of converters provides all standard PC interfaces such as four USB V2.0 ports, two serial interfaces as RS232C/422/485, dual LAN with 100/10Base-T-Ethernet and 1 Gbit Ethernet, and VGA. Inside of the board, there are connections for one floppy disk, one P-ATA hard disks, two other serial interfaces as RS232C, LPT1, two PS2, 24 digital I/O channels and eight channels 10-bit analog-input.
An optional interface module provides two serial interfaces (DSUB9), a parallel port (DSUB25) and two PS2. A slot for IDE CompactFlash type I/II is provided for assembly with solid-state memory instead of hard drive. For the application in networks a 128 bit AES Crypto Accelerator is provided. For display, the board uses the UMA graphic controller of the Geode LX with up to 16 MB VRAM for VGA and 18/24-bit LCD. This controller can display the same image on two monitors. An AC97-compatible stereo sound and DVI-D are available with the optional multimedia module.
This embedded computer board measures 165 x 115 x 25 mm (W x L x H) and weighs 0,2 kg. An integrated long-range power supply provides 10 to 30 V for power (consuming typically 10 W). It operates from 0 to 60°C (std.) and optionally from -40 to 85°C.
With the option of using a PC/104-Plus socket and a MiniPCI socket to integrate individual features, the MSEP800 makes an ideal computer platform for industrial and commercial applications. It is compatible with every standard Pentium PC and runs all common OS, such as Windows XP, QNX, Linux, etc. It is suited for military, telecoms, medical, security technology and image processing applications.
