Tabletop network security platform is compact yet powerful

1 November 2006 Computer/Embedded Technology

Advantech’s FWA-700 is a compact-sized tabletop Internet Security Platform.

Its unique design is based on the high performance, power-saving Intel Pentium M processors. The FWA-700 offers superior connectivity and throughput, and exceeds the requirements of many network security applications for SOHO/home offices, according to the company. It is targeted at application developers and service providers, who are committed to deliver secure Internet connectivity without compromising on network bandwidth.

Robust network security engine

The FWA-700 is not limited by its compact design: the powerful yet power-saving Intel Pentium M processor supports system memory up to 2 GB DDR2 at 400/533 MHz, whilst the Mobile Intel 915GM Express chipset and the ICH6 I/O controller hub combine with the CPU for maximal performance and connectivity without compromising system thermal design. By leveraging the latest PCI Express (PCIe) capabilities, the FWA-700 supports 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports that are connected directly to the Ethernet controllers. This provides end-to-end, bi-directional 2 Gbps peak bandwidth for Gigabit Ethernet support at wire speeds.

For network security

The FWA-700 is designed to support various network applications and has been qualified on the Linux operating system kernel 2,4 and 2,6, which is used to develop network security applications - this to better support customers who have developed applications on the these versions. Compact size and high performance makes the FWA-700 well-suited for SOHO or home-office use as a multifunction Internet security gateway.

Many features

Designed to support various Internet security applications, the FWA-700 has many added features to make it a versatile solution for customers to implement. With dual channel DDR2 up to 2 GB, it is also designed to implement an optional 2,5" IDE hard-disk for more complex security applications that require security log storage and tracking, as well as CompactFlash accessibility for stable OS storage.

Further, to meet the latest standards policy in Europe, the new FWA-700 tabletop Internet Security Platform satisfies the new RoHS standards for environmental safety. It offers optimal hardware configuration in a small, compact-sized design, and supports a wide range of security applications.
