Sector antenna also has adjustable beamwidth

29 November 2006 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Poynting Antennas has developed a unique sector antenna that, in addition to the usual vertical-tilt adjustment, also offers variable azimuth beamwidth. This makes it ideal for installation in high-density environments.

This vertically-polarised variable sector has been designed for the 5,4-5,85 GHz band. The variable sector exhibits good return loss characteristics with a VSWR of typically less than 2 across the band. A sector of 180 (11 dBi), 120 (13 dBi) and 90 (14 dBi) degrees can be achieved by adjusting the two external screws on the back of the antenna.

Variable azimuth beamwidth is a great benefit. It gives the provider the flexibility to accommodate more users in a certain coverage area by narrowing the beamwidth of the installed sector antennas and adding more sector antennas. The diagrams illustrate this by showing a provider starting with 2 x 180 degree sectors in the initial stages of a project, which can be expanded as the need arises. The variable sector allows one to add sectors as subscribers increase. The sectors can be set to any beamwidth required.

The antenna comes with a scissor tilt bracket and can be pole or wall mounted. The dimensions are 380 x 90 mm and it weighs 1,5 kg. It has a rugged, waterproof design and is meant for outdoor use.
