IP-67 waterproof computer

21 February 2007 Computer/Embedded Technology

Aaeon is readying for market an IP-67 waterproof communications controller, which it claims is the first in the world. The new AEC-6710 has obtained five international patents (Germany, Japan, America, Taiwan and China) for its finned, fanless chassis design. It features exceptional heat conduction without any moving components, and can withstand temperatures up to 60°C.

IP-67 is a rating of total protection from dust ingress and immersion in water up to 1 m. This allows the controller to be located in extremely harsh environments such as outdoor, heavy industrial and military applications. The AEC-6710 is suited for highways, parking lots, airports, subways, intelligent transportation management systems, vehicles, marine environments and railway telemetric controls.

Key features: VIA 533 MHz processor; SDRAM DIMM up to 512 MB; 10/100Base - TX RJ45 connector; 1x MINI PCI; 1x USB; -15 to 60°C operating range.
