Antenova has released an RF antenna module for embedded GPS applications for portable devices that integrates a high performance and low-power GPS receiver IC with high efficiency internally-balanced antenna technology. Called the GPS Radionova RF antenna module, the single-ended balanced dielectric antenna technology enables GPS RF antenna modules to operate independently of component placement and ground-plane size. Antenova says its antenna technology provides for a standard, stable multiband antenna platform that does not need to be customised to the device it is working within. This platform capability allows the antenna to be integrated into a module that also includes additional RF components. The drop-in module with GPS and balanced antenna has a small 7 x 34,5 x 4 mm size with a low profile connector for vertical mounting. It only requires a PCB with a groundplane as small as 20 x 40 mm for efficient operation. Antenova says this module will be followed with GSM/CDMA, 3G, dual-mode GPS/GSM and dual-mode Wi-Fi/GSM RF antenna modules.
