EmbeddedATX motherboard expands possibilities with MicroATX advantages

11 July 2007 Computer/Embedded Technology

Advantech's AIMB-341 is an embedded ATX industrial motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron D processors. The RoHS-compliant AIMB-341 features the LGA-775 processor socket, which enables higher processor frequencies and better power efficiencies. It addresses the need for compact high performance embedded computing platforms with large expansion capability. It provides benefits for the automation, transportation and gaming markets.

The AIMB-341 board, at 244 x 244 mm, is a subset of ATX, yet is significantly smaller. This provides most of the features and benefits of full size ATX in a smaller footprint, which means smaller PCB and chassis, which in turn lowers total system cost.

EmbeddedATX/MicroATX has the same mounting holes and I/O panel 'coastline' making the AIMB-341 an excellent upgrade option for existing or new systems. It enables system integrators to configure a smaller, more compact system while maintaining the benefits of expansion and I/O options of an ATX board. Moreover, the AIMB-341 is suited for Advantech's AIMB-C300 rugged industrial chassis and applications where space restriction and high computing capabilities are required.

The AIMB-341 is designed for Intel Pentium 4, Celeron D processors up to 3,8 GHz, and the Intel 915GV chipset provides PCI Express architecture, Serial ATA interface, high performance integrated graphics and DDR2 memory up to 4 GB. The CPU drops into the land grid array (LGA) LGA-775 processor socket for a rigid and more secure contact that provides better performance over previous pin and socket interfaces.

The integrated video controller supports dual independent displays via a standard VGA interface and dual channel 24-bit LVDS and DVI digital outputs. The motherboard has one x PCI Express, one x mini PCI slot, and combines both single standard PCI slot, plus Intel's embedded PCI slot onto the same board for maximum flexibility.

AIMB-341 also comes with dual Gigabit LAN, eight x USB 2.0 and six x COM ports to provide ample network, peripheral and expansion capability.
