New version of MATRIXx increases productivity

8 August 2007 Design Automation

National Instruments has released version 8.0 of its industry-proven MATRIXx software suite for model-based design, simulation and embedded code generation.

In addition to a revamped user interface, MATRIXx 8.0 introduces a project-based development environment to help engineers, designers and researchers in industries such as aerospace and automotive, to better manage large projects. The latest version of the software also offers backward compatibility with MATRIXx 7.1, making it easy for users to import their catalogues and models into the new version without any conversion.

The new project-based development environment in MATRIXx 8.0 provides users with several organisational tools to handle large projects. Users now have a data dictionary to better manage information associated with a project, as well as a search utility that assists with the navigation through models. The project-based environment also features help resources and a new model comparison utility to provide hierarchical differencing between SuperBlocks, giving users an easy way to identify changes between different versions of the same model.

MATRIXx 8.0 also delivers significant improvements to the user interface with a general modernisation of the development environment. The updated development environment aligns with standard Windows conventions and features such as right-click and integrated help menus, as well as drag-and-drop and double-click options. By using features similar to Windows, MATRIXx 8.0 provides a familiar interface that new users can take advantage of to create applications quickly and easily.

With the same file formats as the previous version of the software, MATRIXx 8.0 offers backward and forward compatibility with 7.1.x catalogues and files to give users a smooth transition between the two software versions. Users can import their 7.1.x catalogues and files into the new version of the software without any conversion, as well as use applications created in MATRIXx 8.0 in the MATRIXx 7.1 environment. In addition, the simulator code, Xmath algorithms and numeric libraries remain unchanged, guaranteeing the same results to users who upgrade to the latest version of the software.

Acquired by National Instruments in 2003, MATRIXx has been used in the design of dynamic control systems for aerospace and automotive applications for more than 20 years.
