The MAX3080E-MAX3089E RS-485 transceivers from Maxim are true failsafe receivers and have ±15kV ESD protection. The receivers guarantee a logic high output when the input is open or shorted. All receivers will output a logic high if all transmitters on a terminated bus are disabled, eliminating the need to externally bias the bus using external components. These devices withstand ±15 kV ESD events per human body model, providing added protection to the RS485 port.
The MAX3080E-MAX3089E operate from a single +5 V supply and feature a 1 nA shutdown mode (except MAX3081/MAX3084/MAX3087). All devices have an input impedance that allows up to 256 transceivers on the bus. This family of devices offers a variety of features including half/full-duplex operation, 10 Mbps data rate, slew rate limiting to reduce EMI and reflections, and receiver/driver enable.
