Rugged multifunction operator panel

5 September 2007 Computer/Embedded Technology

Catering to the need for a small size, multifunction operator panel to operate in a compact and rugged environment, Aaeon has developed the AOP-8070.

This panel features a 7", 16:9 aspect ratio, WQVGA TFT LCD and adopts a Marvell PXA 270 for its first TTL LCD and CRT output. The second TTL LCD output is an optional function using an Intel 2700G chipset. The 7" screen has obvious benefits over more common 6" or 5,4" STN or TFT LCD screens, having a more readable view area and allowing for more graphic or text content to be displayed. The brightness is also said to be higher than a traditional HMI.

The panel's Marvell Xscale PXA 270 processor provides an ideal platform for a human machine interface (HMI), being more powerful than a standard ARM7 or 32-bit CPU. Its Ethernet controller and multiple COM port interfaces give it flexible expansion capabilities and, with a built-in CompactFlash socket, the AOP-8070 is claimed to be as compact and user friendly as a multifunction computer. It can be wall-mounted, panel-mounted or mounted on a DIN Rail.

In addition to the HMI market, the AOP-8070 targets transportation, entertainment and Point of Promotion markets. Common industrial applications include factory automation systems, precision machinery and production process control. It is also suitable for many non-industrial applications, including vending machine and car park automation, and is certified to IP65 protection requirements for the plastic front panel and aluminium rear cover.
