Multimode wireless data modem

31 October 2007 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

CML has announced the launch of its new CMX7143, a highly integrated and adaptable multimode wireless data modem built on CML's proprietary FirmASIC component technology.

The CMX7143 addresses the growing global market requirements for multimode wireless data connectivity, offering the ability to implement different wireless data schemes when required.

The CMX7143 initially offers 4-Level FSK operation, but the chip is configurable via special Function Image data files, enabling the implementation of further wireless data schemes by swapping Function Image files. The CMX7143 is supported by a roadmap of future Function Image files, the first of which being GMSK operation. These files configure on-chip subsystems, and are uploaded during device initialisation - the product's function and feature set is then defined. A Function Image can be loaded automatically from an external EEPROM or host microcontroller over the built-in C-BUS serial interface, facilitating in-the-field upgrades if desired.

The device offers a host of features including 4,8 Kbps to 19,2 Kbps data rates, AFSD (automatic frame Sync detection), flexible raw and packet data modes, soft decision decoding and RSSI processing (for Listen Before Transmit Applications). Additionally, two auxiliary ADCs with four multiplex inputs, four auxiliary DACs and two auxiliary system clocks are provided to aid design and operational flexibility.

The CMX7143 is available in a small, low power (3,0 V to 3,6 V with flexible powersave modes), 48-pin VQFN or LQFP package.
