The PCL-849 card series from Advantech provides four individually configurable RS232 serial communication ports while the PCL-849+ has a 16C654 UART. By buffering data into 64 byte packets before putting it on the bus, the UART drastically reduces the CPU load and enhances performance. The distributor says that this communication card offers low-cost, high-speed transmission, easy maintenance, operation and stability.
The card is equipped with a four-layer board, which when compared to other two-layer boards provides better density and resistance to noise. Both the PCL-849B and PCL-849+ provide 2000 V d.c. to protect the system from damage due to high surge voltages.
The PCL-849 series supports up to 921,6 kbps standard PC data rates and is eight times faster than a general communication card. It is an ideal solution for communication servers and other high-speed serial applications.
For easier testing and measuring, eight LED indicators are designed for data flow indication for each port. Furthermore, the user can assign a different IRQ to each port or have all four ports share the same IRQ by simply setting up the jumper on each port. This free IRQ setting makes maintenance easier.
