Development package now includes PICC Lite C compiler

28 March 2001 Design Automation

Microchip's PICStart Plus programmer kit now includes the PICC Lite C compiler for the PIC16F84A flash microcontroller. The PICC Lite ANSI-C compiler is an ideal teaching for anyone wishing to learn C and embedded programming on a Microchip device. The PICStart Plus 'designer's suite' also includes a sample PIC16F84A MCU. The PIC16F84A is an 18-pin slim-line DIP package RISC controller, with 68 bytes of RAM, 13 I/O ports and 1K of flash memory and can operate at frequencies of up to 20 MHz.

A highly flexible and cost-effective design tool, PICStart Plus supports all existing 8 bit OTP MCUs, including the popular PIC12CXXX, PIC16CXX and PIC17CXX devices. The kit includes a copy of Microchip's MPLAB integrated development environment software. The MPLAB IDE allows developers to edit and compile all from a single user interface and provides a user configurable toolbar and a status bar for edit and debug information.

The PICStart Plus programmer kit also contains hook-up cables, a 9 V universal IEC power supply and complete documentation in the form of a user's guide and a CD-ROM of Microchip's microcontroller datasheets. The easy-to-use kit runs on any PC compatible computer under the Windows operating system. The device is CE compliant for European applications.
