Gigabit copper to fibre media interface adapter

Amphenol's media interface adapter (MIA) is an adapter module that converts gigahertz electrical signals into modulated light for transmission on optical fibre media. This MIA is used in specific applications and converts signals from a high speed serial DB9 connector to a multimode optical (850 nm) signal through a SC Duplex interface.
The MIA product is intended to reduce the overall cost of implementing Fibre Channel (1,0625 Gbps) and Gigabit Ethernet (1,25 Gbps) applications. An example application is where an OEM configures its device to support an MIA in a common copper connection environment. The standard copper interface can support the majority of applications for connection lengths up to about 30 m and when longer lengths are needed, Amphenol's MIA can be used to convert to optical and extend the lengths to 500 m or more.
This single design approach also allows for better volume costing and improvements in inventory.
