The new Microspace MSB800UL from Digital-Logic is a 3,5” single board computer (SBC) based on an AMD Geode LX800 processor. The processor runs at 500 MHz and is said to provide performance equivalent to that of an 800 MHz chip. To optimise cooling, the processor is located on the underside of the board, enabling a direct connection to the housing so that passive cooling arrangements are necessary.
The new SBC provides all standard PC interfaces and an additional 10/100BASE T Ethernet LAN. The main memory can be equipped with SODIMMs in the range of 128 MB to 1 GB. The video controller that is integrated in the Geode processor supports VGA displays up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. The video memory, with a maximum of 16 MB, is UMA (upper memory area) shared with the main memory. For optional assembly with solid-state memories, the SBC includes an EIDE CompactFlash type II slot. The MSB800UL facilitates individual expandability by an optional MiniPCI socket and two USB interfaces.
The board has dimensions of 146 x 102 x 20 mm (L x W x H) and weighs only 0,2 kg. It is compatible with PC compatible operating systems such as Windows XP, QNX, Linux, etc, and works with all application software written for PCs. The board provides the possibility to boot the operating system from different media such as hard disk, CompactFlash, USB or LAN.
