SONET/SDH CDR solution

Exar has launched a SONET/SDH OC-3/-12 clock and data recovery (CDR) device for industry standard optical and backplane applications. The XRT91L33 is ideally suited to the cost-reduction trend and increased design margin needs on new and legacy line card designs in add-drop multiplexers, cross-connect equipment, and multiservice switches and routers.

Utilising the underlying technology footprint from Exar’s successful XRT91L34 quad CDR device, the XRT91L33 is a single channel solution operating at 155/622 Mbps SONET/SDH data rates. It features very low power dissipation in a small 20-pin TSSOP package.

The device can generate all clocks from a low cost 19 MHz crystal oscillator. In addition, it is able to detect and generate various alarms and status outputs to provide immediate system alerts and complete fault coverage. The device incorporates on chip power regulation to provide high noise and crosstalk immunity to improve the performance that is critical to SONET/SDH applications.
