Broadband router supports HSDPA and HSUPA

Cape Town-based Multenet Technologies has announced the launch of the Multenet Broadband Router, a commercial-grade wireless WAN (WWAN) router supporting High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), HSUPA and various other protocols, for redundant, high-speed and reliable support for mission-critical data communications.

The router’s dual-SIM network failover allows automatic switch-over to a backup cellular service provider, should the primary service fail. The router further supports GSM GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA and HSUPA, automatically connecting to the fastest connection available, depending on the coverage in the area.

Automated fail-over support for multiple other protocols, including PPPoE, HSDPA and DSL, provides further redundancy, allowing the router to act as an all-in-one redundant gateway, simplifying configuration and lowering the cost of redundancy.

VRRP (Virtual Redundant Routing Protocol) is further included in the list of protocols supported, eliminating the single point of failure of a static default-routed environment. VRRP provides a single virtual gateway in environments with multiple routers. Instead of reconfiguring multiple devices with new routes when a route goes down, VRRP, together with one or more other routers supporting it, will automatically elect a new route, while still using the same virtual IP address as the local gateway address specified on network devices.

An optional extra on the router’s VRRP implementation is the possibility to monitor the WAN link so that when primary connectivity is lost, the router will step down and elect a new default route while retaining the same virtual default gateway and IP address.
