Long-range radio module

17 September 2008 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The unidirectional Europipe outdoor radio module, a new member of Phoenix Contact’s RAD-Line IO product family, can transmit two digital signals and one standard analog signal (4-20 mA) over distances up to three kilometres. Thanks to protection class IP 65, the modules can be installed outdoors without additional switching cabinets, and they can easily be integrated with existing RAD-Line IO products. The trusted wireless system, an industrial radio concept based on frequency hopping (FHSS), ensures the reliable transmission of all process data.

The devices are easy to install and operation can commence very quickly. Wiring is uncomplicated thanks to the M12 connection system, and the modules are simply switched on to establish the radio connection. No programming or configuration is required whatsoever. The sender and receiver modules offer a range of different supply voltages. The 230 V a.c. modules are equipped with an internal power supply, eliminating the need for outside power units. The 24 V d.c. modules feature a range of economy modes so they can be powered by batteries or solar power, making them suitable for use in self-sufficient systems.

Thanks to the unidirectional radio system, point-to-point connections as well as multiple receiver systems can be used to multiply and distribute signals. Comprehensive accessories – ranging from surge voltage protection to an array antenna – not only provide added security but also enable transmission distances up to several kilometres. The certification given in accordance with directive 94/9/EC (ATEX) and IECEx ensures that the systems can be employed internationally in Ex Zone 2 environments.
