Magnet mount GPS receiver and antenna

15 October 2008 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The WS5012 GPS receiver and antenna from Wi-Sys Communications incorporates a highly sensitive 16-channel GPS receiver with very short time-to-fix and a high performance active/filtered GPS antenna. It features STMicroelectronics’ STA8058 Teseo high performance GPS engine with embedded Flash memory, a low noise amplifier, a SAW filter, as well as a tuned ceramic patch element for optimum GPS signal reception.

GPS tracking sensitivity is -159 dBm and time to fix is 39 seconds from a cold start. Current consumption is 80 mA at 3,3 V operation, and the device features low power and standby modes.

The module is housed in a compact, rugged weatherproof magnet or screw mount enclosure, and is available with USB, CMOS and RS232 interfaces. Typical applications include high performance GPS tracking, automotive navigation, fleet management, military, security and public safety, as well as WiMAX and wireless timing/synchronisation.
