Rugged tablet computer

10 June 2009 Computer/Embedded Technology

Aaeon has launched a brand new product line of rugged tablet computers (RTC) for the market that requires water and dust immunity at IP65 or IP54 levels. In addition, this line withstands accidental drops and performs despite vibration and is equipped with both a touch panel and a digitiser in a small form factor. In this application environment, the RTC performs as an armoured PC able to resist vigorous conditions.

The first RTC product – the RTC-840 – features an 8,4 inch TFT LCD display and supports the Intel Core 2 Duo ULV 1,2 GHz processor with a 200-pin DDR II 533/667 SODIMM socket, enabling up to 2 GB system memory. The unit also equips the Intel 945GME LCD/CRT controller that provides optional touch screen and advanced optibond technology (AOT) or digitiser according to customers' needs. The 9-cell smart lithium-ion high-capacity battery offers 6,5 hours battery life and the backlight MTBF is 20 000 hours.

The RTC-840 offers a communication function that supports one Gigabit Ethernet, one 56 Kbps V.92/K56 flex modem, WLAN IEEE 802.11 a/g and optional Bluetooth class2. The computer features one COM port, two USB 2.0 ports, one Mini-USB, one Docking port, two Audio-in/out jacks for microphone/earphone, one PCMCIA slot, one CompactFlash slot, and two internal mini card slots.
