The R596 SMT micro-relay from Radiall employs a micromechanical design which brings together the reliability, RF and repeatability characteristics of coaxial switches with the miniature size and low-cost implementation of surface mount components. Low return loss and insertion loss allow this relay to be used in power applications, as well as in typical CMT relay applications such as RF attenuators, RF matrices, spectrum analysers and telecommunications.
The SPDT relays operate from DC to 8 GHz and are available in versions with failsafe or dual latching coils, with actuator voltages of 12 or 24 V d.c.; the failsafe 12 V variant can also be used with coil voltages of 6 V d.c. Switching time when making contacts is typically 1,8 ms (including contact bounce time), while contact breaking takes just 0,5 ms. Two grades are available for lifetimes of 500 000 or 2 million cycles.
