Maxim’s MAX9879 is a stereo audio subsystem that combines a stereo Class D speaker amplifier, a DirectDrive stereo headphone amplifier and a low-noise analog bypass switch. It delivers 715 mW of output power from a 3,7 V supply into an 8 Ω load with up to 88% efficiency. The integrated DPST audio switch allows users to bypass the Class D amplifier for reduction of power consumption, eliminating the need for an external switch. The IC offers enhanced click-and-pop performance with no audible artefacts at power on/off and also high RF/TDMA noise rejection, which simplifies the design iteration process. Additional features include input mixing, volume control and a flexible, user-defined input architecture with preamplifier gain settings. All controls are enabled through an I²C interface.
