WIZnet has rolled out its newest Ethernet controller, W5300, boasting double the speed and more channels than its existing product, the W5100. The chip integrates Ethernet MAC and PHY and offers 50 Mbps download speed – enough to watch movies in realtime.
It employs a hybrid architecture supporting hardwired and software TCP/IP simultaneously. The controller’s eight channels further make it suitable for triple play service for broadband access, IP-based telephony and digital broadcasting.
WIZnet’s core TCP/IP Offload Platform is an ASSP and silicon-proven intellectual property for custom ASICs, which best fits OS-less devices and is compatible with any embedded OS. Its TCP/IP algorithm guarantees line speed through an on-the-fly processing architecture that is independent of the main processor. It also eliminates the main processor’s overhead by offloading TCP/IP processing and hence enhances overall system performance.
