High-current contactors

3 February 2010 Power Electronics / Power Management

The latest addition to Gigavac’s family of GX contactors is the GX15, which is rated at 500 A, 750 V a.c. or d.c. Coil voltages of 12/24/28/48/72/120 V d.c. and 115/240, 50/60 Hz a.c. are available.

The contactors have a small footprint of 138 x 70 mm and their chassis level power terminals mean that there is no need for specially routed power cables, special bus bars or special lugs. They have a rugged EPIC (extended performance impervious ceramic) seal rated to 175°C to ensure reduced risk of fire or meltdown in over-current conditions. The units are also hermetically sealed and designed to meet UL1604 for Class I & II, Div 2 and Class III for use in hazardous locations, IP67 for temporary water immersion, external ignition protection and protection against ignition around flammable gases.

Optional high-efficiency dual DC coils are available with very low 12 or 24 V d.c. continuous coil power and no EMI emissions; built-in coil suppression is provided for all DC coils.
