Onboard memory added to high-speed digital I/O family

National Instruments has expanded its high-speed digital device family to include the NI 6534 high-performance digital I/O device, which combines pattern I/O, handshaking, and change detection on the same device.
The NI 6534 is available for PCI and PXI/CompactPCI. It delivers 32 lines of 5 V/TTL digital I/O and start and stop triggering, and can transfer in 8, 16 or 32 bits. The NI 6534 also features two independent data paths with 32 MB of on-board memory per data path. With the on-board memory, data transfers can occur independent of the computer bus for a faster, more reliable transfer rate. Users can perform separate operations with the two independent data paths, including simultaneous input and output. As with all NI data acquisition devices, the NI 6534 includes NI-DAQ 6.9, the latest version of the company's robust driver software.
The device can transfer data at 80 MBps for pattern I/O or handshaking I/O. With the six different handshaking modes on the device, users can easily communicate with a peripheral device or an external system. Users can connect the NI 6534 to a variety of external devices, such as custom scanners, ASICs, or electronic components. With the change detection feature, users can set up the device to only acquire data when a change occurs on a digital line. Through this feature, the user can reduce the load on the computer bus and the file size when logging data to disk by avoiding continuous polling.
NI designed the NI 6534 for fast throughput with the ability to output data directly from on-board memory, which makes it ideal for manufacturing test applications. In design verification applications, the device gives users the flexibility to customise applications to test different product designs.
