RS485 transceivers for long cable runs

Maxim’s new half-duplex RS485 transceivers enable data rates up to 40 Mbps and are available with either symmetrical or true fail-safe receiver inputs for applications requiring long cable runs.

The new MAX14840E and MAX14841E from Maxim are high-speed (40 Mbps), half-duplex RS485 transceivers for industrial applications with long cable runs. The MAX14840E features symmetrical fail-safe receiver inputs and high (170 mV) receiver hysteresis to improve noise rejection and signal recovery in high-speed and long-cable applications. The MAX14841E has true fail-safe receiver inputs that guarantee a logic-high receiver output when inputs are shorted or open. These features, combined with the robustness of the transceivers, make the devices suitable for harsh motor-control environments.

The ICs operate from a low supply voltage (3,3 V), feature robust ESD structures (±35 kV, Human Body Model), and are fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Both are available in standard 8-pin SO and space-saving (3 x 3 mm), 8-pin TDFN packages.
