Low-power GPS module

GlobalTop has released a new GPS module featuring low power consumption (24 mA tracking/30 mA acquisition), with support for dual antennas with antenna auto switching, while maintaining high levels of reception sensitivity. The GMS-U1LP measures 16 x 16 x 6 mm and utilises MediaTek’s GPS MT3329 solution that supports up to 66 channels of satellite searching with -165 dBm sensitivity and 10 Hz maximum update rate for precise GPS signal processing under high velocity conditions. The device comes with a switch mode power supply (SMPS) that can help reduce the overall GPS power consumption by over 30% when compared to the previous generation of GlobalTop’s PA6 family. The module also supports value-added software customisation such as binary mode and 1-sentence mode that can further enhance overall system efficiency.
