HSPA wireless modules

19 January 2011 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

u-blox’ new LISA-U1 series modules are a 3,75G solution offering full dual-band HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE data and voice transmission in a compact form factor.

Featuring low power consumption and GSM/E-GPRS class 12 data transmission with voice capability, the devices combine baseband, RF transceiver, power management unit, and power amplifier in a single, easy-to-integrate solution.

The new modules are a complete, fully qualified and certified solution. They are ideally suited to M2M and automotive applications such as mobile Internet terminals and applications, car infotainment and telematics, automatic meter reading (AMR), remote monitoring automation and control (RMAC), surveillance and security, eCall, road pricing, asset tracking, fleet management, anti theft systems and point-of-sale (PoS) terminals.

LISA-U1 series modules support full access to u-blox GPS receivers via serial port. Thus, GSM/EDGE and GPS can be controlled through a single serial port from any host processor. The compact form factor and SMT pads allow fully automated assembly with standard pick-and-place and reflow soldering equipment for high-volume production. A sensor inside the modules is used to constantly monitor the board temperature; when the module enters a critical thermal condition a notification is reported. It is also possible to configure the module to automatically reduce power consumption and allow the temperature to decrease.

For customers using u-blox GPS receivers, LISA-U1 modules feature embedded AssistNow online and offline clients which can be enabled or disabled with an AT command. The modules act as a standalone AssistNow client, making AssistNow available with no additional requirements for resources or software integration on an external host microcontroller.
