Moxa’s new AWK-5222 is a rugged, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g-compliant, 3-in-1 industrial wireless access point/ bridge/client, designed to be immune to disconnections caused by radio interference. The device offers a variety of wireless connection configurations and solutions to create a robust wireless connection for critical industrial wireless applications.

To enhance reliability, the access point (AP) has two independent RF modules to establish independent wireless connections for rapid failover. In addition, it has a wireless redundancy mode to increase the reliability of the entire wireless network, and its wireless bridge mode optimises WDS (wireless distribution system). The AWK-5222’s AP client mode can be used to provide Internet access in areas where cabling would be too expensive or impractical to install.

The device is also compliant with IEEE 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). With 100 ms ‘Turbo Roaming’, well suited for rolling stock applications, and fast BSS (basic service set) transition between access points, data transmission latency is minimised and wireless network roaming is seamless and fast. The AWK-5222 is also equipped with dual Ethernet ports that support RSTP or Turbo Ring for added network reliability.
