Hittite has introduced two new SMT packaged MMIC voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) which are designed for industrial/medical test and measurement equipment, military communications, EW and ECM applications from 6 to 20 GHz.
The HMC732LC4B and HMC733LC4B are wideband GaAs InGaP devices which incorporate the resonator, negative resistance device and varactor diode. They provide output tuning ranges of 6 to 12 GHz and 10 to 20 GHz, respectively. The 732 delivers high output power of +1 dBm and low SSB phase noise of -95 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, while the 733 delivers output power of +3 dBm and SSB phase noise of
-90 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset from the carrier.
The Vtune ports of the HMC732LC4B and HMC733LC4B accept an analog tuning voltage from 0 to +23 V, and accommodate a 65 MHz tuning bandwidth. The VCOs operate from a single +5 V supply and consume 57 to 70 mA of current. They exhibit excellent microphonic immunity due to their monolithic design and are housed in footprint compatible, RoHS compliant, 4 x 4 mm SMT packages.
