PCIe Gigabit fabric switches

16 March 2011 Computer/Embedded Technology

Two new fabric switch boards have been developed by Concurrent Technologies to complement its range of VPX and VXS single-board computers (SBCs).

The FR 331/306 (VPX) and FX 322/0xx (VXS) provide switching technology to enable multiple SBCs to inter-communicate effectively. Both fabric switches provide backplane connectivity compliant with VITA 46.x and VITA 41.x standards, ensuring seamless system integration of full line rate net-centric architectures for rugged, aerospace, military, industrial and telecommunication secure networks. Both fabric switches can also be configured using Concurrent’s fabric switch configuration software.

The FR 331/306 is a 3U OpenVPX (VITA 65) fabric switch offering Gigabit data transfer rates in a form factor that is fast becoming the bus architecture of choice for many aerospace, defence and harsh environmental deployments. It supports: x4 PCI Express (Gen1 or Gen2), six payload boards; DMA on two PCI-E ports and user configuration via RS232. The FR331/306 is designed to complement the TR 501/36x Core 2 Duo VPX SBC.

The FX 322/0xx is a multichannel 6U VXS fabric switch operating at multiple Gigabit transfer rates to provide higher bandwidth and lower latency for PCI Express architectures. It supports: x4 PCI Express (Gen1 or Gen2) 6, 12 or 18 payload boards; two inter switch ports; four SERDES ports and user configuration via RS232. The FX 322/0xx is designed to complement Concurrent’s VX 511/06x Core 2 Duo VXS SBC.
